11 27 17 City Council Proceedings Official_Special CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS SPECIAL SESSION OFFICIAL The Dubuque City Council met in special session at 6:00 p.m. on November 27, 2017 in the Historic Federal Building, 350 W. 6th Street. Present: Mayor Buol; Council Members Connors, Del Toro, Jones, Lynch, Resnick; City Manager Van Milligen, City Attorney Brumwell Absent: Council Member Rios Mayor Buol read the call and stated this is a special session of the City Council called for the purpose of conducting the quarterly Inclusive Dubuque work session. WORK SESSION Inclusive Dubuque Quarterly Work Session Inclusive Dubuque Network Coordinator Katrina Neely Farren-Eller along with Network Partners Matt Klutzaritz and Peter Supple of the Boy Scouts of America; Christina Schauer of Mercy Hospital and Kelly Larson of the City of Dubuque provided an update on recent activities and successes of Inclusive Dubuque. Topics included: • Inclusive Dubuque Mission Statement and definition • Network definition, structuring, purpose and funders • Definitions of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion • 3 Levels of Network equity education goals and strategies: o Individual level; Institutional level; Systems level • Polarity between individual and institutional levels; upside & downside • Current work happening at the individual and institutional levels o Best practices in diversity, equity and inclusion o "I'm a Dubuquer" Campaign o Facing Project: TH partner stories of immigrant and refugee experiences o Sector groups: arts, culture, education, neighborhoods, and Project HOPE economic opportunity • Network partners working at the individual and institutional levels o Boy Scouts' "Scoutreach" program o Mercy Hospital - Model of Caring, diversity and inclusion as organizational priority o City of Dubuque Equity Core Team structure, advancing and improving equity and inclusion in government workforce development, delivery of City services and Purchase of Service agreements The presenters responded to questions from the City Council regarding the "I'm a Dubuquer" Campaign stating that it has been successful and has started good conversation and discussion.
