SUBJECT:Vernon Street at Glen Oak Street
Several requests have been made for the installation of stop signs on Vernon Street at
Glen Oak. A review of the accident data indicates that there have been seven
accidents at this intersection since 1999, which is considered to be an unusually high
number of accidents considering the volume of traffic entering the intersection on a daily
basis.
Public Works Director Mike Koch recommends placement of stop signs on Vernon
Street at Glen Oak Street.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

INTRODUCTION
The following is in response to several requests for the installation of stop signs
on Vernon Street at Glen Oak Street.
DISCUSSION
Several accidents have occurred at this intersection in recent years. This is
currently an uncontrolled intersection where there is apparent difficulty in
determining which movements have the right-of-way.
A review of the accident data indicates that there have been seven accidents
since 1999. This is considered to be an unusually high number of accidents
considering the volume of traffic entering the intersection on a daily basis.
RECOMMENDATION
Based on the number of accidents that have occurred at the intersection, I
recommend installing stop signs on Vernon Street at Glen Oak Street.
The attached ordinance provides for the placement of stop signs on Vernon
Street at Glen Oak Street.
ACTION TO BE TAKEN
The City Council is requested to adopt the attached ordinance providing for stop
signs on Vernon Street at Glen Oak Street.

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE
CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, BY MODIFYING SUBSECTION (b) OF
SECTION 32-214 THEREOF PROVIDING FOR THE ADDITION OF
STOP SIGNS ON VERNON STREET AT GLEN OAK
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA:
Section 1. That the Code of Ordinances of the City of Dubuque, Iowa,
be amended by adding Vernon Street and Glen Oak to Subsection (b) of Section
32-214 thereof as follows:
"Sec; 32-214.
Stop Intersections.
(b)
Eastbound and Westbound
Vemon Street and Glen Oak Street
