Mediacom Cable Report
Mr. Barefoot reported that he is now interviewing for his assistant's position and hopes to have
someone in place by the end of the month. He has been doing software updates on the server, one
as recently as this morning, in an effort to fix the problems that have been plaguing the channels.
Things seem to be better.
Access production is fairly busy these days. He has started exploring the use of virtual sets with three
different groups. Senior High School has been in taping for programs for Channel 19. He expects to
help Loras College with its basketball telecasts until their new equipment arrives. There are more
episodes of "Maestro & Me" to produce and the new season of "Kids in the Kitchen" begins soon. He
expects that the Steadicam will be used almost exclusively now. Mr. Barefoot expects an upcoming
shoot with Spirit of Truth Ministries to yield up to eight different programs.
Cable TV Report
Mr. Nowack provided an update on the Mediacom Digital Tier proposal. The City Manager, after
receiving the recommendations of the two cable commissions, asked him to sit down with Mediacom
and see which of the proposed items they would agree to. That meeting was scheduled for tomorrow,
but this morning Kathy McMullen called to say some of the Mediacom representatives would not be
able to come and she would try to come up with new dates to re-schedule the meeting.
Mr. Nowack expects to bring a grant request next month in order to run some cabling as the Library is
renovated that will eventually enable live telecasts from there via the I-Net. He also is planning on
getting quotes to enable live I-Net telecasts from Five Flags. He also thinks that putting receivers at
Mediacom is a good idea so live events can air on the three channels that originate there.
The City will be recording the keynote address at the Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast on the 19t" and
a mentoring awareness presentation later that same day. Both will provide programs for CityChannel
8.
Mr. Nowack informed the Commission about the self-subscribing Notify Me option for cable TV news.
He also informed them that the Cable TV budget presentation is scheduled for February 17, the same
day as the digital television transition. He reported that CityChannel 8 has a new look for the new
year, with some animated logos and graphics that Video Producer Erich Moeller created using After
Effects.
Adjournment
Upon a motion by Ms. Tigges, seconded by Mr. Vincent, the meeting was adjourned at 4:39 p.m.
