Library Board of Trustees Update 1 22 09Carnegie-Stout Public Library Library Board of Trustees Updute From the Meeting ~f JanLZUry 22, 2009 Present: President; Diann Guns, Secretary, Kristen Smith; Paula Connors, David Hammer, Beverly Kolz, Elizabeth Leeper and Mike Willis • 50% of the fiscal year passed and expenditures were at 48%. Revenues are at 68% of projections. • Circulation was up 8% and library visits up 3% over the same time last year. • One of the fastest growing areas of circulation is that of laptop computers - a 208% increase in use over the previous year. • Phase 2 of construction can begin earlier than planned because we have already cleared out the west side of the original building on first floor. A wall will be erected to block off this area and include a window so that visitors can watch construction as it progresses. The temporary wall will be decorated with murals by local artists. • The Library must file for re- accreditation in February. All requirements were in order with the exception of a currently reviewed Collection Development Policy. The management team decided it was time to do more than just review/approve the existing document and we undertook a total revision of the policy. The policy is streamlined now and the board approved it with only a minor change. • The Board voted to recall the Heade painting from the Gallery in New York where it has been on exhibit for nearly two years. After consulting with an expert in the field, it was agreed that the painting is no longer "fresh." There also happens to be several other Heade paintings for sale in New York currently. Because of current market conditions it is unlikely that it will be sold for anywhere near our asking price. Holding on to the painting for close to a year and reintroducing it, to a different gallery, it was felt, would make a difference.
