Proclamation YWCA Apprec. MonthPROCLAMATION
WHEREAS,
The Young Women's Christian Association, a women's membership
movement nourished by its roots in the Christian faith and sustained
by the richness of many beliefs and values has been an important
part of the Dubuque tri-state community for 100 years; and
WHEREAS,
Domestic violence, an important YWCA sponsored program,
provides a safe haven and support for victims and family members
of domestic violence along with community education and
awareness; and
WHEREAS,
Childcare, health and wellness, youth development, volunteer and
leadership programs draw members together who strive to create
opportunities for women's growth, leadership, and power in order to
attain a common vision of peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all
people; and
WHEREAS,
Community events such as the YWCA Week without Violence
October 13-19, 2002 including a candlelight vigil at the Julien
Dubuque Bridge on October 13, 2002 and the Race Against Violence
at Murphy Park on October 19, 2002 are being held to bring
awareness of the tragedy of domestic violence.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA DO HEREBY PROCLAM OCTOBER, 2002 AS:
"YWCA APPRECIATION MONTH"
IN DUBUQUE, IOWA FOR ALL THE QUALITY PROGRAMS AND SERVICES THAT
IT PROVIDES TO THE COMMUNITY.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have
hereunto set my hand and caused
the Great Seal of the City of
Dubuque, Iowa to be affixed this 7th
day of October, 2002.
