2 16 09 City Council Proceedings Official_Special THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA CITY COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS OFFICIAL The Dubuque City Council met in special session at 5:45 p.m. on February 16, in the Historic Federal Building Present: Mayor Buol, Council Members Braig, Connors, Jones, Lynch, Resnick, Voetberg, City Manager Van Milligen, City Attorney Lindahl Mayor Buol read the call and stated that this was a special meeting of the City Council called for the purpose of discussing the Convention and Visitors Bureau Budget and Work Plan. Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Keith Rahe introduced his staff, Marketing Director Kelly Schiesl, Sales Director Julie Kromlage, Sales Manager Katie Simmons, Welcome Center Manager Stacey Hubanks, Special Projects Manager Ben Leifker. Rahe presented a slide show and highlighted the following goals and points: ? Mission statement ? Critical success factors ? Business plan Identify, engage and communicate the return on investment to members o and stakeholders Create and implement a marketing plan to increase tourism o ? Conventions (Goal of 70,000 convention delegates) ? Request for Proposal (sample conference proposal) ? Educate: guides, postcards, brochures, and billboards promoting area attractions ? Provide education on product and service excellence Be a leading authority for regional tourism, association memberships o Regionalized tourism o Out-of-State marketing campaign o Public Relations o ? Financial Sustainability ? Critical success factors and measurements ? New programs Marketing and public relations, web/electronic marketing o Hospitality, front-line training o Group sales o Sports marketing, created Olympic Task Force o ? Budget: Income/Expenses Fiscal Years 2008-2009, 2009-2010 Increase in grants, partnerships o Awareness development o Traveling/Marketing o ? Sports and Destination Festival and Events Pilot Program Dubuque Regional Sports Commission o Ten pilot festival events, strategies, outcomes, funding o There being no further business, upon motion the City Council adjourned at 6:22 p.m. /s/Jeanne F.
