Memo
To: Randy Peck, City Council Members and Mike Van Milligan
From: KeyLine Bus Operators
Date: March 9, 2009
Subject: KeyLine Driver Hours
We would like the hours cap of 1,664 hours yearly (32 hour a week average) to be raised to
1,976 hours a year (38 hours a week average). This would enable some drivers to make a decent
wage, closer to a full-time job. The bus drivers could make $150.00 to $185.00 more per pay
period ($4,800 more per year). This costs the City of Dubuque nothing.
KeyLine management is in favor of this because their workforce would be more flexible and it
would eliminate many scheduling conflicts. The few drivers on the bottom of the list who do not
want to work as much would not be forced to work more hours. All full-time drivers should
have the same base pay. The hourly pay inequity should also be addressed. Equal pay for equal
work!
More benefits should also be addressed.
