Van Milligen, City Manager FROM:Andrew D. Perry, Airport Manager Airport Commission Doug Brothermn · Rick Ooodin · Ted Goodrnann John Markham · Jim O'NeiIt SUBJECT: TaxiwayAlpha Lighting Background: The Airport is currently in the last stages of the rehabilitation of lighting on Taxiway Charlie and Taxiway Bravo with AlP Grant 3-19-0028-31. Issue: Within the last year and more recently within the last month, we have experienced lighting failures on Taxiway Alpha four times. Staff has worked throughout the night to get the lights operational and has temporarily jumped the wiring so we have lighting at this time. This is seventeen-year old cable that was done with direct burial. With winter coming, staff is uneasy that the lighting will not make it through the winter and the Airport will incur high electrical repair costs. The lack of lighting on this taxiway is a safety concern especially during fog or winter conditions. Request: The Airport has been working with our engineering firm to solicit unit prices to replace the existing northwest section of Taxiway Alpha lighting and the Airport asked the FAA approve a change order to the existing grant to replace the lighting on Alpha NW. This permission has been received from the FAA. The Airport Commission, at their October 29, 2002 meeting, approved this change upon the City's concurrence. Estimate as follows Alpha NW. Lighting Removal and Replacement $77,776 CMT Construction Observation $11,800 Total Cost Estimate $89,576 FAA@90 % $80,618 PFC @ 10% $ 8,958 Recommendation: The Airport Commission and staff respectfully request your concurrence in using this Change Order to the FAA Grant to complete this lighting work on Taxiway Alpha NW. The increase cost to the City would be adding $8,958 to the outstanding PFC total.
