Proclamation_Martin Luther King Jr. DayWHEREAS, Sunday, January 16, 2000 is the day on which our community
will celebrate the Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., begin-
ning with a j~arade starting at the Washington Park Gazebo at
I p.m.; anc~
WHEREAS,
on Monday, January 17th, there is the eighth annual Martin
Luther King, Jr. Breakfast at the Loras College Alumni Center;
and
WHEREAS, Everyone can be gmat because everyone can serve. You only
need a heart full of grace....A soul generated by Iove....And
hands willing to help; and
WHEREAS, the non-violent example of leadership set by Dr. King is
worthy of emulation and commemoration by residents of this
community and all Americans; and
WHEREAS, Martin Luther King, Jr. left to us a commitment to justice as an
unfinished Agenda for the 21st century; and
WHEREAS,
we who have been the inheritors and witnesses of this dream
have a responsibility to keep it alive for generations yet to
come.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM SUNDA Y, JANUARY ~6, 2000
AS A DAY OF GREAT CELEBRATION IN HONOR OF THE BIRTH OF MARTIN
LUTHER KiNG, JR. I URGE ALL CITIZENS TO JOIN IN KEEPING HIS
DREAM AUVE BY JOINING IN THE CELEBRATIONS OF JANUARY ~6 & ~7,
2000.
