Oak Street to Oak CourtPrepared by: Laura Carstens, City Planner Address: City Hall, 50 W. 13th Street Telephone: 589-4210 ORDINANCE NO. 4-00 AN ORDINANCE CHANGING THE STREET NAME OF THE EAST 485 FEET OF OAK STREET TO OAK COURT Whereas, the City of Dubuque City Council has approved the request of residents of 686 and 691 Oak Street to change the street name of the east 485 feet of Oak Street to Oak Court, all in the City of Dubuque, Iowa; and Whereas, City and County staff have reviewed the request and recommend that the street name be changed; and Whereas, the City Council desires to change the east 485 feet of Oak Street from the easterly right-of-way line of Union Street extended northerly to the northerly right-of-way of Oak Street easterly to the east terminus of Oak Street in accordance with the original plat of "Union Addition", Dubuque Iowa, recorded in Deed Record Book "R" pages 100 and 101, to Oak Court. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: Section 1. That the east 485 feet of Oak Street from the easterly right-of-way line of Union Street extended northerly to the northerly right-of-way of Oak Street eastedy to the east terminus of Oak Street in accordance with the odginal plat of "Union Addition", Dubuque Iowa, recorded in Deed Record Book "R" pages 100 and 101, be renamed to Oak Court as shown on Exhibit 1. Section 2. That the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized and directed to endorse the approval of the City of Dubuque, Iowa, upon such changing of street names and to file notice of the change with the County Recorder, County Auditor and City Assessor of Dubuque, Iowa. BACKGROUND: I received a call from Bobbie ~D'Reilly in late November requesting that the City allow them to change the name of their street. DISCUSSION: Rising Avenue separates the portion of Oak Street that would change to Oak Court from the remainder of Oak Street. The two homes affected by this are behind homes on the north side of Cleveland Avenue. I have attached a map that Guy provided for assistance in your review of the circumstances. t have also attached the signed requests for the change from both affected parties RECOMMENDATION: I recommend that you proceed with the necessary resolution/ordinance to change the street name from Oak Street to Oak Court for that portion of Oak Street east of the intersection with Rising Avenue (or Union Street?). ACTION REQUIRED: Forward this request to the City Council in the proper form. I would be willing to notify the E911 system, post office, etc.'upon Council approval. The portion of Oak Street requested to be renamed proceeds from its intersection with Rising Street approximately 485 feet to its eastern terminus. Oak Street terminates at the property of the two residents who have requested the change (see attached map). There are no other residences that have frontage on this portion of Oak Street. This request has been reviewed and met the approval of the Building Safety, Planning Services, Fire and Emergency Communications (E911) staff. An ordinance is attached for the City Council's review that formally changes the name of the east 485 feet of Oak Street to Oak Court. Staff recommends that the Council approve the attached ordinance.
