Brick Pavers Request - DNRMEMORANDUM December 9, 2002 TO:The Honorable Mayor and City Council Members FROM:Michael C. Van Milligen, City Manager SUBJECT:Request for Use of Brick Pavers Park Ranger Wayne Buchholz of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (Iowa DNR) has requested the reuse of a portion of the historic brick and granite pavers that were salvaged by the City several years ago. The City has palletized and is storing these pavers for reuse on City projects. Currently there are two City projects for which the granite pavers will be used: around the monument/fountain sign at the new education and conference center and in a rest area for the future Pyatigorsk Park as part of our sister city relationship. The City has also approved a request by the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium for use of granite pavers at the restored depot building. While the City will not be able to provide granite pavers to the Iowa DNR, the City has ten pallets of brick pavers to meet the request of the Department of Natural Resources at the Mines of Spain. The DNR will be restricted to using the bricks at the E.B. Lyons Center and RipRow Valley. They will be further asked to post a sign at each location advising the bricks were from City Of Dubuque street projects and they were donated by the City. Finally, the DNR will be required to return the bricks if they no longer have a use for them in these two locations. I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council approval. Michael C.
