Manager Wolfe reported there was a Iow level of rental activity during the month of July
due to arena painting. Focus for the month was on building maintenance, staff training,
and event planning. Manager Wolfe reported that she has been working on marketing
and getting the ticket office open. Also, the event contract has been updated to reflect
insurance requirement updates.
Tickets for the Collin Raye concert on September 27 are currently on sale. Tickets will
go on sale Friday, August 23 for Rodney Carrington, a currently popular comedian. The
making of ice will begin a little eadier this year; the day after the Irish Feis, a regional
Irish dance competition being held on September 7. Staff has been working hard on
hiring, as a newspaper ad was run in the Telegraph Herald and the response was very
good. Response for the Events Coordinator has also been very good. To date, 51
applicants have returned the Civil Service exam. The exams will now be graded.
July financial information was reviewed, showing a Iow income due to the closing of the
arena for painting.
Old Business included the staffing of a building attendant when the arena is being used
during non-business hours. City Manager Mike Van Milligen has approved that the cost

been very responsive to filling the times where a building attendant is needed.

The commission reviewed the Thunderbirds contract which had been discussed with,
and verbally approved by David Field, Thunderbirds investor. The charge per game will
be reduced from $600 to $500. The Thunderbirds may want to use two volunteers to
take tickets at the games instead of using Five Flags staff to save on staffing costs.
Mike Brannon moved to approve the Thunderbirds contract as presented. It was
seconded by Rod Bakke and approved by all. The contract will also go before the City
Council for their approval.
Mike Brannon moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Rod Bakke. There being no
further business, the meeting adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Mark Nauman
