Every Child / Every Promise Quarterly Reportchild promise ~,,a Quarterly Progress Report Submitted by: Mae Hingtgen, Executive Director The mission of Every Child ~ Every Promise is to "engage the entire community to fulfill the Five America's Promises to the youth of Dubuque County." In order to complete this mission, Every Child ~ Every Promise is developing a Dubuque County Youth Master Plan. This comprehensive plan for children, youth and family services will help our community create better outcomes for children by aligning resources and initiatives around a common cause. A good deal of time has been spent during FY09 creating the infrastructure that will enable EC~EP to lead this effort. Every Child ~ Every Promise's focus is to create a balance between immediate impact and long-term success for our children through community planning and community collaboration. 7/1/08 - 9/30/08 Outcomes Community Planning Relationship development with city, county and non-profit partners EC~EP seated and oriented a new Board of Directors Board began discussions of a community-wide strategic plan Community Collaborations 1900 kindergarten and 1St graders received fire safety education at neighborhood schools and 100 families took advantage of free smoke detectors installed in their homes through a partnership with Dubuque Fire Department, Red Cross and EC~P CFGD, Project HOPE, CPPC and EC~EP hosted "Learning Together: How Poverty and Diversity Impact our Community". One hundred thirty people attended and 74 out of 74 respondents reported they would apply the training in their work 40 children from the Multi-Cultural Family Center, Teresa Shelter, Fulton and Prescott schools received free backpacks filled with school supplies and non-perishable food items 10/1 /08 -12/31 /08 Outcomes Community Planning ® Research was completed and training received on building the Dubuque County Youth Master Plan • 140 people attended EC~EP hosted community events to give input on the Youth Master Plan and addressing service needs Community Collaborations EC~P, Empowerment and other agencies hosted Kids xpo on November 8t". Over 2600 people attended with a record 66 vendor booths. DALMC, NICC, Boy Scouts Exploring and EC~EP hosted Career Exploration Fairs for all 8t" grade students in Dubuque County The All Kids Covered grant from America's Promise ended. Collaboration through this grant by CFGD, EC~EP, the Ad Club, Crescent CHC and the VNA resulted in 6,000 Dubuque residents receiving information about Crescent and Medicaid/hawk-I, 672 children receiving healthcare case management, 183 children identifying Crescent as their medical home and an 11% increase in county Medicaid enrollments. 1 /1 /09 - 3/31 /09 Outcomes Community Planning • First draft of Dubuque County Youth Master Plan is completed. Twelve partner agencies are consulted for feedback and support. • EC~EP partnered with Dubuque Community School District to provide recommendations on Dropout Prevention and Early Childhood Education to the Board of Education which include language relevant to the Dubuque County Youth Master Plan Community Collaborations In collaboration with Dubuque Mentoring Partnership, EC~EP hosted Mentoring Awareness Day on January 19t". 100 people learned more about mentoring and local mentoring programs. Local programs have received 26 mentors as a direct result of Mentoring Awareness Day. Dubuque Bank & Trust has begun a yearlong Fill the Wagon project. Employees donated over 200 items such as balls, jump ropes, and Frisbees aimed at encouraging physical activity. Items were distributed to Dubuque YMCA, St. Mark's Community Center and the Boys and Girls Club. EC~EP and VNA promoted Cover the Uninsured Week March 22 ®28. Medicaid and hawk-I outreach was provided at the Earned Income Tax Credit sites of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and the Multi-cultural Family Center. Nearly 100 families received information and offers of assistance with Medicaid or hawk-I applications.
