Proclamation_Scoutreach Day
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the Scoutreach Program of the Boys Scouts of America reinforces development
of basic family values, builds self-worth, recognizes successful urban role
models, builds partnership with neighborhood organizations, provides positive
alternatives to gang and drug-related problems, and teaches respect for cultural
diversity; and
WHEREAS, the Scoutreach Program has an obligation to serve all youth regardless of their
socioeconomic situation and reaches out to ethnic minorities, underprivileged
youth, and those youth who are at greater risk for failure or setbacks to provide
the best possible adult and peer role models; and
WHEREAS, the Northeast Iowa Council - Boys Scouts of America has identified over 300
elementary-age youths that could benefit from the Scoutreach Program ; and
WHEREAS, Hillcrest Family Services, Prescott Elementary School, Fulton Elementary School,
Audubon Elementary School, Boys and Girls Club, Dubuque Y, Salvation Army,
and St. Patrick’s Youth Ministry will provide a classroom setting to conduct the
Scoutreach program during this year-long, once-a-week program, which teaches
team building, productive citizenship, appropriate work habits and the value of
education; and
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF
OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE
30TH OF MAY 2009, AS
“SCOUTREACH DAY”
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, AND INVITE ALL BOYS AGES 6-10 TO PARTICIPATE IN A
FREE DAY CAMP AT 9:00 AM ON MAY 30 IN COMISKEY PARK.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my
hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of
Dubuque to be affixed this 18th day of May, 2009.
