Proclamation_Relay for Life Days
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Relay For Life is the signature activity of the American Cancer
Society and honors cancer survivors, including anyone who has ever
been diagnosed with cancer, and remembers those lost to the
disease; and
WHEREAS, there are an estimated 10.8 million Americans with a history of
cancer alive today; and
WHEREAS, in 2008, more than 1.4 million new cases of cancer will be diagnosed
in the United States; and in Iowa, an estimated 16,150 people will be
diagnosed and 6,480 will die from the disease.
WHEREAS, money raised during the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of
Dubuque helps support research, education, advocacy and patient
services; and
WHEREAS, Relay For Life helps fund more than $100 million in cancer research
each year.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA,
ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO
NDTH
HEREBY PROCLAIM THE WEEK OF MAY 22 – MAY 29, 2009 AS
“RELAY FOR LIFE DAYS”
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, AND ENCOURAGE ALL CITIZENS TO
PARTICIPATE IN THE PAINT THE TOWN PURPLE EVENT DURING THE WEEK AS
WELL AS PARTICIPATE IN THE RELAY FOR LIFE OF DUBUQUE AT DALZELL
FIELD AT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL ON MAY 29 AND 30 FROM 6 PM TO 6 AM.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have
hereunto set my hand and caused the
Great Seal of the City of Dubuque to
be affixed this 18th day of May, 2009.
