Proclamation_National Tourism Month
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS,
the Dubuque Convention and Visitors Bureau will celebrate May as
National Tourism Month; and
WHEREAS,
Dubuque has become a leader in the travel and tourism industry hosting
over 1.6 million visitors annually; and
WHEREAS
, Regional tourism efforts of the Dubuque CVB have created new
partnerships in the Tri-State area; and
WHEREAS
, Dubuque County has seen a substantial increase in traveler spending
from $236.82 million in 2006 to $253.20 million in 2007; and
th
WHEREAS
, Dubuque ranks 7 out of the 99 counties in the state of Iowa in traveler
spending and welcomes annual visitors from all 50 states and 48 foreign
countries; and
WHEREAS,
theDubuque Regional Sports Commission received a $50,000 grant from
the State of Iowa, and this investment has a return of $16,265,376 million
into Dubuque’s regional economy.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA,
ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO
HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF MAY 2009, AS
“NATIONAL TOURISM MONTH”
