The enclosed resolution is in reference to the public hearing on the Locust Street
Sidewalk and Traffic Signal Project, 8t" to 12t" Street.
BACKGROUND
In the summer of 2008, the City began the design of the Locust Street Sidewalk and
Traffic Signal Project, 8t" to 12t" Street. The project will be constructed in advance of
the Iowa DOT Project STP-U-2100 (641)--70-31 which includes an asphalt overlay and
curb ramp improvements from 9t" Street to 17t" Street.
DISCUSSION
The Locust Street Sidewalk and Traffic Signal Project, 8t" to 12t" Street, includes:
- Reconstruction of signals: Along Locust Street from 8t" to 12t" Street, including
Locust at 8t" 9t" 10t", and 12t" Streets; and around the Locust Street Ramp at Bluff
at 8t" and 9t" Streets. Due to ordering/delivery timelines, the control cabinetry and
battery back-up equipment will be provided by the City.
- Fiber optic interconnection conduit linkin~q the referenced signals to the existing
interconnect located at Locust Street at 14t Street.
- New sidewalk and street lighting around the perimeter of the Locust Street Ramp.
RECOMMENDATION
I recommend that the City Council approve the plans, specifications, form of contract
and the estimated cost for the Locust Street Sidewalk and Traffic Signal Project, 8t" to
12t" Street.

amount $629,818.20, are hereby approved.
