Proclamation_Apples for Students
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, for more than 20 years St. Mark Community Center has worked with underserved
and underprivileged children and families in Dubuque with a focus on academic
enrichment; and
WHEREAS, St. Mark Community Center staff, board members and supporters are committed
to restoring hope, opportunity and excellent education in the lives of at-risk youth
in Dubuque; and

WHEREAS, St. Mark Community Center will launch its 13 Annual APPLES FOR STUDENTS
program in the Dubuque community during the months of June, July and August.
Apples for Students aims to collect money to buy basic school supplies for needy
children. To date St. Mark Community Center and area volunteers have donated
more than 17,200 bags of school supplies to area students in both the public and
parochial school system; and
WHEREAS local schools and human service agencies have rallied to helped St. Mark
Community Center identify at least 1,500 children who need school supplies this
year, and
WHEREAS, St. Mark Community Center invites the people of Dubuque to help create a
brighter school year for all local students by donating money to this program so
school supplies can be purchased in bulk from local merchants.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, DO HEREBY
PROCLAIM THAT THE MONTHS OF JUNE, JULY AND AUGUST BE DESIGNATED FOR THE
COLLECTION OF MONEY TO BUY BASIC SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR NEEDY CHILDREN IN THE
CITY OF DUBUQUE AND SUPPORT ST. MARK COMMUNITY CENTER IN THEIR EFFORT
TOWARD HELPING CHILDREN BY PARTICIPATING IN THIS WORTHWHILE PROJECT.
