& AQUARIUM
IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE Smithsonian Institution
January 14, 2003
The Honorable Mayor Terry Duggan
Members of the City Council
50 W. 13th St.
Dubuque, IA 52001
Dear Mr. Mayor and Members of the City Council:
The Dubuque County Historical Society requests Council's consideration to including a
representative of the Society to the Arts and Culture Task Force that was recently created.
We are extraordinarily grateful to the City of Dubuque for our parmership and the assistance the
City has given us in the America's River project and the National Mississippi Privet Museum &
Aquarium. But, we also note there is no provision for operating support of the new Museum and
Aquarium, nor for the Ham House, the Old Jail or the Ryan House. We believe we serve a
valuable role in the community. Should funds be made available to support arts and cultural
institutions in the community, we hope we might be considered for such support.
Therefore we respectfully request that a representative of the Dubuque County Historical Society
be appointed to the Arts and Culture Task Force recently established by the Council to study the
issue of City support for non profit arts and cultural groups.
Respectfully,
Jerry Enzler
