Minutes_Cable TV Teleprogramming 6 2 09MINUTES OF CABLE COMMUNITY TELEPROGRAMMING COMMISSION MEETING June 2, 2009 CITY HALL ANNEX - 2nd FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM #2 MEMBERS PRESENT: Jennifer Tigges, Sr. Carol Hoverman, Pauline Maloney, AI Vincent. MEMBERS ABSENT: George Herrig, Burton Everist. One seat is vacant on the Commission OTHERS PRESENT: Jim Barefoot, Mediacom Jordan Decree, Dubuque Art Center Craig Nowack, City of Dubuque Ms. Maloney called the meeting to order at 4:09 p.m. Acceptance of the Agenda Upon a motion by Mr. Vincent, seconded by Sr. Hoverman, the agenda was accepted as published by a vote of 4-0. Approval of the Minutes of the May 5 and May 12, 2009, Meetings Upon a motion by Sr. Hoverman, seconded by Ms. Tigges, the Minutes of the May 5, 2009, Meeting were approved 4-0. Upon a motion by Ms. Tigges, seconded by Mr. Vincent, acceptance of the Minutes of the May 12, Meeting failed by a vote of 3-0 with Sr. Hoverman abstaining. Public Comment There was no public comment. Access Equipment 8~ Expenditures Jordan Decree from the Dubuque Arts Center presented a request for $38, 778 dollars for cameras and editing equipment. The Dubuque Arts Center plans to offer a free production class for high school students with the ultimate goal of producing programming about the local arts and cultural scene for public access. Mr. Vincent moved to approve up to $40,000 for the equipment on the request minus the blank videotapes and including three 3 TB drives instead of two disk arrays. The motion was seconded by Ms. Tigges and approved 4-0. Communication from Tom Decree at Eleanor Roosevelt Middle School Upon a motion by Sr. Hoverman, seconded by Mr. Vincent, the Commission voted 4-0 to receive and file the communication. Grant Agreements/Programming Review Mr. Nowack reported that he called Boyd Card at Hempstead High School about the lack of programming. Mr. Card said he had not submitted any and was at fault for not doing so. Mr. Nowack also scheduled a meeting with Tom Decree and the principal of Roosevelt Middle School about the future of the grant equipment there in light of Mr. Decree's leaving the school. The principal was adamant that the equipment will be used by Mr. Decree's replacement. Mr. Nowack reminded him that programming must be submitted to and air on the school district channel. Mr. Nowack also called and talked to Jim Puls, the school district's technology director, and said that schools are getting grants but the programming is not finding its way to Channel 19. Mr. Puls agreed that programming must air and Mr. Nowack offered to help in any way he could to set up a process to get programming on the air. Later in the summer Mr. Nowack will meet with Mr. Puls and Gary Olsen to discuss this process. Mediacom Cable Report Mr. Barefoot reported that Gary Olsen applied for and won a Cable Leaders in Learning national award and will be traveling to Washington, DC, next week to accept it. Out of the ten awards nationwide, Mediacom was affiliated with two. As system representative, Mr. Barefoot will be traveling with Mr. Olsen. Mr. Barefoot said that he and Tyler are in the process of offloading some video from the editing computers which are filling up with so many projects. Once the video is removed, he will be installing the CS4 upgrades. Cable TV Report Mr. Nowack said he is working on two big shows for the summer: one on Eagle Point Park and one on the sustainable renovation of the Roshek Building. The latter was Video Producer Erich Moeller's project which is now delayed somewhat due to his broken ankle. Adjournment Upon a motion by Mr. Vincent, seconded by Sr. Hoverman, the meeting was adjourned at 4:50 p.m.
