Dear Brian,

I received a copy of your July 8, 2009 letter on the transient boat docks.
I appreciate your position on wanting the transient boat docks in front of the Brewery in
the main channel of the river, instead of in the Ice Harbor. The major obstacle that has
arisen is that because of construction issues and grant requirements, the main channel
location is $1.5 to $2 million over available budget funds. This means that the choice
for the City Council is now between the Ice Harbor or not to build the project; returning
the $3 million federal grant.
Assistant City Engineer Bob Schiesl is leading this project for the City and would be
happy to visit with you to explain the situation.
Sincerely,
Michael C. Van Milligen

Re: Port of Dubuque Brewery Development, LLC /Docks Along Port of Dubuque
Dear Mr. Mayor and Members of the Council:
We represent Port of Dubuque Brewery Development, LLC, the developer of the "Star
Brewery" site in the Port of Dubuque. We have been asked to contact you with regard to the position
of the members of that LLC concerning the docks the City may construct in the Port of Dubuque.
Our client strongly prefers that the docks be constructed in front of (or to the east of) the brewery
building. They believe that convenience to the boaters would be best achieved by that location, plus
that location would enhance development of the Star Brewery building. Our client advises us that
it has been told by a number of the tenants of the building that they would prefer this location as
well.
Please do not hesitate to contact us directly should you have any questions. Thank you.
Best regards,
KANE, NORBY &REDDICK, P.C.
