TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: Michael C. Van Milligen, City Manager
SUBJECT: July 3 Fireworks Display
DATE: July 29, 2009
The Dubuque Jaycees, KDTH, KGRR and the River conduct the annual July 3 fireworks
display on Volunteer Road between Hawthorne and Lime, with a July 4t" rain date.
They are asking for approval for the July 3, 2010 display and the right of first refusal on
the dates in future years.
The Dubuque Jaycees and Radio Dubuque, particularly Perry Mason, have delivered
the premier fireworks and air show display in the Midwest for many years. Crowd
estimates given by military pilots as they survey the Tri-States show that as many as
250,000 people enjoy these displays.
I respectfully recommend Mayor and City Council approval subject to the annual
submittal and approval of a City of Dubuque Special Event Permit.
