Name of Property 176 Alpine Address Dubuque County Dubuque City 7. Narrative Description: This property is located in the Langworthy Historic District. Colonial Revival style, pedimented gable fronts on core and wing, short porch columns on brick piers with Ionic capitals, concave projecting beltcourse between floors, unusual fenestration with windows offset to the south half of the fayade, broad eaves. Physical Description: Broad 48x32 gable front rectangular plan with matching centered side 15x3 side bays and two-story rear porch(10x39) extends beyond each sidewall at the rear. Stone foundation. Front porch measures 10x31. Alterations: aluminum siding, certainly over wood shingle exterior at least on upper floor and gable fronts, porch balustrade built in, duplexed, second front entry original or added, fenestration particularly on gable front has been altered. Permits note re-roofings in 1938, 1992, adding open porch over kitchen in 1952. Landscaping/Setting: garage at back of lot, exits to alley to east. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Building History: Matthew C. and Ethel Ferring are the first listed occupants in 1921, but lived at 1049 Bluff in 1918. J. S. Stephens owned the property when it was sewered and the sewer tap dates to May 8, 1912. Peter N. Nicks given as owners by Assessor, 1926-71. 9.
