7. Narrative Description:
This property is located in the West Eleventh Street Historic District. StyleNear: c.1879-80, 1.5-story
frame Italianate/vernacular L-plan
Physical Description: low stone foundation, chimney in center of plan, narrow 2/2 windows, twin doors
on front of wing, attic light and small corner attic light. Hip roof porch. The frame portion of the building
is a full story below grade. Rectangular core 24x29 with 16x17 side wing, front porch 5x29, side porch
5'6"x16.
Alterations: faux brick siding, porch posts. Permits note re-roofings in 1982, 1995 (front porch only),
two new free standing stairs 1985.
Landscaping/Setting: on shelf below sidewalk, wire fence, fronts south.
8. Narrative Statement of Significance:
Building History: John F. and Catherine Hammon lived here 1881-1896 (Catherine was widowed by the
latter date, he was a printer/compositor for the Herald.
John F. Hammon owned the parcel when it was sewered in 1897.
