7. Narrative Description:
This property is located in the West Eleventh Street Historic District. Style/Year: pre-1872/1906
(Assessor), two-story Italianate brick gable front aide hall plan (style embodied in floor length lower
front windows, basket handle attic light, double entry with transoms).
Physical Description: raised stone foundation, water table, symmetrical fenestration, right side double
entry, same double rowlock brick window arches as 508-10 Chestnut, wrap-around from the spring
stone base, stone sills. Complex roof plan shows a gable front core, lower gable roof intermediate
section and a rear cross gable section (same clearly appears on 1889 birds eye view). East side
basement windows. 65x22 rectangular core with no additions. three family unit 1971.
Alterations: 1950 Sanborn Map shows single-story frame centered east side porch, no front porch.
Front entry doors replaced, transom covered (vents), lower windows paneled and reduced windows
replaced. No permit data.
Landscaping/Setting: ground drops to the east, open yard in that direction.
8. Narrative Statement of Significance:
Original Owner/Builder: Samuel S. and Sarah Winall lived here 1890-99. He was a partner with
Palmer, Winall & Co.
Building History: appears on 1872, 1889 birds eye views.
Winall owned the parcel when it was sewered in 1891.
