Peterson, a contractor, built a double two-story brick tenement, 38x20 with wing 14x12, for $3,200 on Chestnut, between High and Prairie, in 1870. The narrow length given best fits this duplex (Herald, December 18, 1870). J. G. Peterson also built a $5,000 brick dwelling on Chestnut in 1876. Peterson then lived at 82 Arlington so it was not his residence (Herald, December 7, 1876). No address is given but it could apply to any early brick. J. H. Riland lived at 73 Chestnut in 1890 and worked for Laflin and Rand Powder Co. Mrs. Ada A. Riland (his widow) was here in 1899. No listings found for 69 Chestnut. P. Bissell owned the parcel when it was sewered in 1891. 9.
