Narrative Description: This property is located in the West Eleventh Street Historic District. Style/Year: 1878, two-story brick Italianate style side hall residence (returned eaves, paired brackets, elongated lower windows). Side chimneys survive to full height which is unusual. Physical Description: rectangular plan (38’6”x22), raised stone foundation, rounded stone lintels with flattened ends, right hand side double entry with transom (original doors), twin attic lights with straight stone lintel, stone sills. Chimney on east side wall. Single-story rear gable roof wing (22’5”x16’6”), side porch 12x10. Alterations: wrap around porch on front and east removed (present a replacement). Permits note re- roofings in 1954, 1994-95, re-siding in 1994, conversion from single to two-family 1939 ($800), rebuilding rear open porch 1966. Being restored. Landscaping/Setting: very high terraced setting with concrete stairs, metal railing, attached garage in back of plan. Concrete retaining wall with metal railing. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Original Owner/Builder: Arthur B. and Elizabeth Carlin lived here 1890-99. He was vice president of Farley-Loetscher Co. A. B. Carlin built a two-story brick residence on Chestnut Street for $2,500 in 1878. Carlin then worked for Farley-Loetscher Company and lived here as of 1886 (Herald, January 3, 1879; Times, December 11, 1878). Building History: A. B. Carlin owned the parcel when it was sewered in 1891. 9.
