Narrative Description: This property is located in the West Eleventh Street Historic District. Style/Year: c.1865, Italianate broad two-story gable front brick residence with side hall plan (bracketed eaves, returned eaves, oculus attic light, possible elongated lower level windows). Physical Description: raised stone foundation, rectangular core (49x31 with centered south wing, 17x6) with left hand double entry, rounded stone lintels with flattened ends on all fronts, stone sills, off center chimney (to south of roof ridge), asymmetrical fenestration, two-story narrow hip roof rear wing, bay window on southwest corner, c.1910 Neo Classical wrap around porch (46’ frontage, 31’ depth to north, 18’ to south) with Ionic style columns, a cantilvered rounded east balcony and rounded southeast corner and stairs with stone side walls. Corner porch (southwest corner) measures 14x6), frame shed at northwest corner measures 20x14. Alterations: porch as noted. Porch being restored and columns repaired. Permits note a re-roofing in 1995, converted from single-family to tri-plex in 1941 ($200), porch repairs 1982, porch piers repaired and decking 1988. 1971 Assessors card notes garage/loft 25x25, “old” presumably replaced. Landscaping/Setting: high terrace setting, ground rises to the west, moderate front stone retaining wall, high one to the north. A carriage house elevated to Dell Street appears to be new construction. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Original Owner/Builder: George Richardson was a major boot and shoe manufacturer and lived here in 1890 (57 Highland Place). Lawyer George W. Kiesel lived here 1896-99. Building History: George Richardson owned the parcel when it was sewered c.1890. He built a single- story frame barn at 57 Highland Place in 1886 and is listed at same 1886-1890 (Herald, January 1, 1887). rd George Richardson is not listed previously here, living at 3 & Bluff in 1883. 9.
