Narrative Description: This property is located in the West Eleventh Street Historic District. Style/Year: c.1865/1856 (Assessor), Italianate style (massing, elongated lower level windows, entry with sidelights and transom, side hall plan) two-story brick side gable plan modified to Neo Classical c.1910 (gable roof front dormer with broken pediment, Palladian window, modillions in lieu of brackets, porch with rounded north end). Physical Description: square core (34x27 with 16x16 south wing) with south gable roof wing, centered rear wing (39x15 with 26x5 side porch), symmetrical fenestration. Raised stone foundation, different stone base under porch. Lower level window arches appear to be original (double rowlock courses) while upper level lintels have been rebuilt as flat brick voussoir arches. Porch rear north side. Porch has 35’ frontage, 14’ depth on north end. Alterations: apparent rebuilding of roof and eaves, addition of dormer, altering of upper level windows, addition of front porch and rearmost wing. Permits note re-roofings in 1932, 1970 (front porch), 1982, 1996, front porch repair 1986, footings for detached garage 1998. Assessor notes demolition of barn with loft, 24x30, c.1962 along with removal or rear porch. Landscaping/Setting: high terrace, deteriorated frame carriage house at back of lot on Dell Street. Stone retaining wall to the north and east. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Original Owner/Builder: No 1918 listing is found. William A. Smith was here in 1921. Building History: C. A. Payne Jr. owned the parcel when it was sewered c.1890. Tri-plex as of 1971. Earliest directory listing yet found is for F. D. Turner, 1899 (67 Highland). C. B. Palmer here 1902, F. W. Starr and Claude Sheffield here 1908, Harry G. Nathan here 1915-18. 9.
