7. Narrative Description:
This property is located in the West Eleventh Street Historic District. Style/Year: 1886 (Assessor),
Italianate style two-story brick side gable duplex (paired brackets, narrow windows, bracketed porch).
Physical Description: rectangular plan (front core, 30x37, centered rear wing 28x27, rearmost centered
wing, 18x22) with raised stone foundation and water table, basement windows with stone lintels align
with upper windows, centered and paired single door entries with transoms (original doors),
symmetrical fenestration with elaborate incised stone lintels (pediments, triangular caps on spring
stones), stone lintels. Larger square hip roof front porch (6x12) with square pillars and bracketed
eaves. Eaves continue beyond side walls, chimneys on front wall plane at end walls. Centered two-
story and single story rear brick wings (present 1891).
Alterations: well preserved, windows replaced, concrete porch deck, metal rails on steps. Permits note
re-roofings in 1945, 1973, 1998, soffits and fascia work 1975, replacement of 6x12 front porch 1995.
Frame garage 20x18.6 apparently demolished. Porch side balustrades since 1986.
Landscaping/Setting: public walkway to east, ground rises to north behind building.
8. Narrative Statement of Significance:
Building History: P. P. Murray owned the parcel when it was sewered c.1889. Assessor splits property
as of 1971.
First directory listings are 1888, James J. Murray, deputy county treasurer, 465/61 West 14, here
through 1921, and George H. Brown, district Master Mechanic, CM&St. Paul Railroad, 469/63 West

14, 1896, here through 1899.
