Narrative Description: This property is located in the West Eleventh Street Historic District. Style/Year: 1886 (Assessor), two- story brick Italianate style side gable row house (single brackets, rounded frieze base, narrow and elongated lower level windows, denticulated cornice, half surviving original porch with trimwork, balustrade, hip roof, turned posts, oculus attic lights) matches 533-41 Loras. Physical Description: rectangular plan (30x36) on raised stone foundation with water table, symmetrical fenestration including basement windows, paired and centered entrances with transoms, permastone front, raised and stepped end walls and end chimneys on front roof plane. Centered two-story brick rear wing measures 14x24, same in frame at rear measures 12x24. Side bay on rear wings measure 2x5. Alterations: left chimney cut back, metal canopy replaces west half porch, concrete stoop and metal supports, rails on same. Permits note re-roofings in 1931, 1976, front and rear step replacement 1982. Assessor notes front porch removal 1972. Landscaping/Setting: ground level rises to west and abruptly to the north, stone retaining wall with concrete cap, cut and steps, stone retaining walls to west and north. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Building History: 1889 birds eye view shows just three side gable duplexes, this being the fourth. Assessor splits property as of 1971. Caleb Chapin owned the parcel when it was sewered c.1889. The tap dates to August 16, 1926. The earliest directory listings found place John C. Clifford at 575/145 1899-1921, and Thos. J. Kelly in 583/147 1921. The latter was vacant in 1918 and the number is not listed in 1899. 9.
