Narrative Description: This property is located in the West Eleventh Street Historic District. Style/Year: c.1884-85, 1856 (Assessor), vernacular two-story gable front. Stuccoed stone or brick. Physical Description: two-story frame gable duplex plan (cubic core, 26x25’6” with offset side wing, 36x20) basement level walk-out. A single-story addition infills the plan (22x20). The corner front porch measures 11x14’6”. Alterations: asbestos siding, metal awnings. Permits for 1028 note re-roofing 1940, 1977, 1995, and roof repair 1966, new front porch 1931, addition for use as a store 1938 ($600), exterior remodeling 1985 ($73,000 includes interior work). 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Special Significance; porch is rare survivor and example. Original Owner/Builder: Nagle House? Building History: 1938 permit indicates multi-family, $600 expended, store conversion? 1940 permit for 1040 for front porch, $128. Assessor addresses as 1028-30 as of 1971. Directories place the McLean family here 1886-99. Charles McLean, editor for the City Edition, Daily Telegraph, Mrs. M. A. (widow Daniel) and George all here 1886 (were at 309 Julien in 1884), Charles W. McLean, reporter for the Telegraph, Mrs. M. A. and George remained here 1890-96. George by latter year was secretary for the Key City Gas Co. and Charles was Editor for the Telebraph. In 1899 only Mrs. McLean lived here. 9.
