Narrative Description: This property is located in the West Eleventh Street Historic District. Style/Year: pre-1872/1881 (Assessor), likely originally Gothic Revival (steeply pitched cross gable front wing) but substantially modified c.1910 in apartment conversion. Physical Description: two-story frame side gable plan (26’6”x48) with centered gable roof front wing, stuccoed exterior, raised stone foundation with water table, c.1910 full-width front porch with square cut pillars. Shallow shed roof oriole added to south end (4x11). Centered rounded porch (1909) (12x40). Alterations: is now a six-plex, modifications have eliminated all detail, house is severely deteriorated, particularly front porch and remains vacant, porch post-1909. Permits note a re-roofing in 1994, repair interior fire damage 1961, alteration to existing manufactured dwelling 1977, third floor apartment remodeled 1980. Landscaping/Setting: on very high terrace on large corner lot, fronts east. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Building History: appears to be present on both 1872 and 1889 birds eye views as a side gable plan with centered gable roof front wing. th H. Hipman improved his residence on the corner of Prairie and 14 streets at a cost of $3,000 in 1878 (Herald, January 3, 1879). This is the only surviving house that might be said to have a corner location th on 14. Dwight T. Smith owned the parcel when it was sewered c.1889. Directories place him here as of 1888 when he was manager of the Consolidated Tank Co. He was at 93 Arlington in 1886 and worked for M. M. Walker Co. By 1896 he was the manager for Standard Oil Co. and vice president of the M. M. Walker Co. He is last listed here in 1899. Four-family dwelling, 1971. 9.
