Dear Cindy:
We at Great Places' are proud to announce that this first application round was a great success! The
Iowa Legislature provided $1.9 million in vertical infrastructure money from the Rebuild Iowa Fund
for our Great Places. We received a total of 33 grant applications; requesting a total of nearly $4.42
million. While we wish we could fund each puzzle piece fully, limited resources and State
accountability concerns demanded a competitive process. Our review panel, consisting of three Great
Places Board Members and three state agency representatives, allocated the funds based on the average
of their scores on the proposal review tool provided in the Request for Applications (RFA). In the
grant review process, the board worked hard to ensure that each Great Places had at least one grant
application that received partial funding.
We are pleased to inform you that your grant application for Millworking District Streetscape project
was approved, for a total grant of $150,000. You will receive a Great Places grant agreement within
two weeks, which will need to be signed and returned to the Great Places office within 20 days.
Expenditures for vertical infrastructure are eligible for reimbursement if incurred and submitted after
July 1, 2009.
We appreciate the hard work that each of our Great Places took to earn their designation, and are
pleased to offer this assistance toward realizing your Place's vision. We look forward to its continued
development and our partnership with your Great Place.
Sincerely,
