Narrative Description: This property is located in the West Eleventh Street Historic District. StyleNear: pre-1889, c.1897-98? Second Empire style (true Mansard roof), Modifed Gothic (gable roof dormers, pointed windows in dormer, centered gable roof through cornice dormer). This would have been described as "Modified Gothic" when it was built, a local style that focused on the dormer and pointed window forms. Physical Description: Two-story rectangular plan (40x32) with centered rear wings (28x28, rear centered porches 27x6), inset corner side porches (6x7), centered and paired single front entries, symmetrical fenestration, and a centered fairly long hip roof porch (24x5'6") with projecting pedimented entry gablet (3x13). Dormers have gable roofs and ornamented frame surrounds, there are two on each side wall, and the east ones flank a chimney. There is a 1.5-story gable roof offset rear wing with end chimney (post-1950). Alterations: broad aluminum siding, porch posts replaced with metal ones. Permits note re-roofings in 1991 (half, 663), 1972 (675) , 1981 (front, 675), residing 1958 (asbestos) (675). Landscaping/Setting: terrace setting with front stone planter, west concrete retaining wall, fronts south. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Original Owner/Builder: George H. and Mollie/Mary Fry lived in 663 as of 1899-1922. He was a salesman for Bell Bros. and lived at 198 West 11 th in 1896. An apartment is listed first in 1929. George H. Killen was in 675 1899-1904. Miss Mary E. Rose was here 1916-27, WilliamL. Figge 1934-48. An apartment is first listed 1929. Elmer Dolan was here 1954-69 (Biays Bowerman research). Building History: a building is present on the 1872 birds eye view and could be this building, it certainly is clearly present as of 1889 on that view and its style best suits that period. James Howie The E. D. Norris Estate owned this parcel when it was sewered. Four-family unit as of 1971. 9.
