7. Narrative Description:
This property is located in the West Eleventh Street Historic District. StyleNear: c.1935-36, foursquare
plan.
Physical Description: two-story square plan (26x22), west side hip roof porch (5x7)open, asbestos
siding on second floor, faux asphalt stone siding below (matches that on 695). Rear centered attached
garage wing (20x10). Front porch measures 12'6"x7'6".
Alterations: siding. Permits note re-roofings in 1959, 1991, attached garage re-roofed 1987, front porch
re-roofed 1988.
Landscaping/Setting: corner lot, fronts north.
8. Narrative Statement of Significance:
Original Owner/Builder: E. C. Kuhnle
Building History: James Wallis purchased the John G. Regan property on 11th between Spruce and
Prairie on May 7, 1895 for $2,100 (Herald, May 8, 1895). This is the only property that might represent
a post-1895 building linked to this purchase. James Hird (1952-54) and then Thomas and Rosemary
Hird owned property 1955-76. First listing E. C. Kuhnle, 1937
