PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING

It was moved by Harjehausen, seconded by Schrobilgen, to approve the
minutes of the January 14, 2003, meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
Leisure Services Manager Gil Spence shared with the commissioners the
management agreement with Golf Professional, George Stephenson. The only
difference in the agreement is the salary, increase of 3%, which totals $58,300.
(salary is based on the same pay scale as the Golf Superintendent)
Commissioner Harjehausen questioned the insurance schedule that Georgle
maintains. Spence will check with the Financial Director as to the liabiEbj
insurance coverage.
It was moved by Schrobilgen, seconded by Lyness, to approve t_he
management agreement with George Stephenson. The motion passE.~l
unanimously.
Park Division Manager John Hail updated commissioners:
~ three (3) vehicles have been up for bid (mid-size pickup truck w/plow, dump
truck for forestry crew, van) I, crew will continue to flood the ice rink at Flora
Park ~ flowers are being planted at the greenhouse ~ maintenance worke~rs
continue to repair/replace picnic tables I, we continued to have two (2) forestry
crews working on tree maintenance
With the absence of Recreation Division Manager Pat Prevenas, Leisure
Services Manager Gil Spence informed commissioners:
~' registration is in process for the post-season city basketball and alumni
basketball tournaments ~ summer adult softball and volleyball registration
materials have been mailed out for league registration l, we have a total of
103 boys and 53 girls participating in the after-school grade 5 & 6 basketball
program ~ open swimming attendance at Hempstead Pool has been
averaging over 100 participants each Sunday aftemoon ~ registration is
continuing for the winter/spring swim lessons for Saturday morning and
Wednesday evenings beginning February 22nd and 26th at Hempstead Pool
~ class registration is in process for a life guarding class to be held on
February 26th and 28th, and March 1st
Commissioner Ho~'~ann asked about the possibility of expanding the after-
school basketball program for grades 3 and 4. Mr. Spence will check into this
matter.

Leisure Services Manager Gil Spence informed the commissioners that
the City Council budget hearing is scheduled for Monday, February
24th. Five (5) commissioners will be attending the dinner/hearing.
(Daykin, Duggan, Harjehausen, Hoffmann and Schrobilgen)
· Commissioner Duggan asked about the Bunker Hill Golf Course hosti~g
Saturday evening steak fryes opposite weekends of Lacoma. A
proposal will be developed for the next meeting.
· Mr. Spence shared with the commissioners that the Bunker Hill Golf
Course Clubhouse will have to have a designated non-smoking area
established.
· Mr. Spence asked the commissioners to think about a possible location
for an in-line hockey dnk. The Youth Hockey Association will be
providing one-half of the funds. Jack McCullough and Bob Moldenhauer
from the Youth Hockey Association will be present at the March meeting
to discuss the location.
· Mr. Spence has received nine (9) proposals for the renovation of the
Bunker Hill Golf Course.
It was moved by Duggan, seconded by Schrobilgen, that the meeting be
adjoumed at 5:01 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
