Narrative Description: This property is located in the Jackson Park Historic District. Style/Year: pre-1884, Italianate style (bracketed cornice, returned eaves, elongated windows, denticulated cornice, and the flattened arch entrances). Designer/Builder: Physical Description: two-story side gable brick rectangular plan, symmetrical fenestration, rounded arches with flattened ends, paired and centered entries with double doors, recessed side panels and unusual flattened arched transoms, two central second floor façade windows were originally doors, Classical Revival porch with square brick pillars, brick sidewalls, concrete stairs. Stone foundation, water table. Alterations: shed roof dormer on south half roof front, two doors on upper floor altered to windows, porch as noted. No permit data. Landscaping/Setting: excavated level parcel, open on both sides, bluff behind, fronts east. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Special Significance; th Original Owner/Builder: J. W. Goldthorpe built “two houses on Bluff near 10” for $8,000 in 1881 (Herald, December 4, 1881). Building History: S. J. Goldthorpe owned parcel 6, Lot 655 in October 1889 when the block was first sewered. 1896-1899 directories list Isaac Chamberlain, special agent for Iowa State Fire Ins. Co as res 1015 Bluff 1896-1899 directories lit E. H. Herrington at 1017 Bluff. 1880-1888 directories list no Goldthorpe either alphabetically or under contractors, carpenters, builders. 9.
