Moore House Dubuque Name of Property County 1025 Bluff Dubuque Address City 7. Narrative Description: This property is located in the Jackson Park Historic District. Style/Year: 1882, Second Empire (mansard roof), and Italianate (massing, brackets) styles. Physical Description: very unusual two-story rectangular brick plan with true mansard roof set crosswise to street. Brick pilasters define two window bays on the east end wall, five full or half bays on the south side front. There is a west-end ell of matching proportions but it has rounded arched 2/2 windows and might be older. Prominent cornice and paired brackets, gable roof dormers on mansard front. Raised stone foundation and water table. Cast metal lintels and sills. Alterations: window replacements (front basement). No permit data. Landscaping/Setting: excavated level parcel, raised deck/terrace to south. Fronts south. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Special Significance; Martin H. Moore House, Moore was the president Dubuque Lumber Company c.1882 and Grant-Galena Lumber Co. as of 1893. Original Owner/Builder: Martin H. Moore is credited with the following building projects: ?1880, $600 improvements, house on Bluff (Herald, January 1, 1881). ?new dwelling and improvements, $8,000, Bluff (Herald, December 31, 1882). ?mid-1883, moves into new house (Herald, May 23, 1883). ?late 1883, finishes brick residence, $6,000 (Herald, December 20, 1883). (present on 1884 Sanborn Map) Building History: M. H. Moore owned the east half of this portion (Lot 5 of Sub. Lot 655) in October 1889 when this block was sewered. 1883-1899 directories list M. H. Moore at this address. 9.
