In the mid-1990's the City was experiencing some crime problems in the Bluff
Street/Jackson Park neighborhood. The City formed a Community Based Task Force
on Gangs, Drugs and Youth Violence. This Committee consisted of the leaders of
many organizations in the community serving on the Task Force. They looked at the
facts related to the issues and advocated for solutions. One of the outgrowths of their
work was the City's Community Oriented Policing Program.
The City Council has made creating a crime strategy a high priority. I would like to
invite a representative of your organization to attend an inaugural meeting of this new,
as yet unnamed, task force to begin looking at the City's current crime issues and
possible solutions.
The inaugural meeting will be held at the Grand River Center, 500 Bell Street, Dubuque,
Iowa, IUleeting Room #4 on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. While I realize
this will be a large group to invite, I anticipate that we will develop small working groups.
also anticipate that we will identify more organizations and individuals that we may
want to invite to participate in these workgroups.
Thank you for your commitment to the betterment of our community.
Sincerely yours,
~!
