She just has a few comments and would appreciate a chance to speak. Thank you, Toni Kretschmer 255 York Street Dubuque, Iowa 52003 file://C:\Documents and Settings\jschneid\Local Settings\Temp\XPgrpwise\4ABOE002D... 09/16/2009 Page 1 of 1 Jeanne Schneider -Dear City Council, subject, dog park From: <LeoraBem@aol.com> To: <rdbuol@cityofdubuque.org>, <klynch@cityofduuque.org>, <dresnick@cityofdubuque.org>, <rjones@cityofdubuque.org> Date: 09/12/2009 12:33 PM Subject: Dear City Council, subject, dog park Why are you people wasting money on a new dog park ????????????????? You will get complaints no matter where you put a new park!!!! Five people have complained verses hundreds that use that park. Why are the voices of the users not heard by you ???????? Isn't this a Democracy????? I have driven past there many times and "once" I heard a dog bark!!!! As you can tell by my address, I live next to the Swiss Valley dairy. Will you close that for me????? There is constant noise and dirt from there and that goes on 365 days 24/7 and sometimes into the night. I can never open windows and if I don't like it here I will move!!!! Mr. Ruden can do the same. Share this with any council members I've missed. Stop spending money on the good things we already have, PLEASE!!!! I am a Boy Scout with Troop 69, St. Josephs Key West. As part of my Citizenship in the Community merit badge I need to write a letter regazding an issue in the community that I am concerned about. I will be discussing my views on the dog parks on Grandview Ave. I have aShiba-Inu dog that needs exercise to rehabilitate a hip injury that occurred this summer. She needs a safe place to run free and I feel the city should provide a safe place for animals like my dog to run. It is also a great place for animals to interact with each other. I also like the centralized location of the dog pazk. It is very convenient for people that live on the edges of town so they do not have to drive as faz to get there. Please consider leaving this location open for future use. Thanks for your consideration. Sincerely, John Lau 1411 Old Mill Rd. Dubuque IA, 52003 1 Deaz Mayor, Council members and Mr. Van Milligan: Og CEP ~ i P~ 3~ Z ~ The Aspen Ct. Residents strongly oppose the park commission's recom~a~h'~a~iodi~ti~~#fI;;G the north end of the Grandview Pet Pazk open. This will not solve anything. ~{~ (,~ have to wait to see what it will sound like. We already know. You will see and heaz in the videos we're providing for you to look at that dogs bazking in the north section aze just as loud as anywhere in the park. There is a description of all the videos on page 2. When the Aspen Residents delivered 17 videos to the city council for the December 17~' 2007 council meeting we also provided a copy to Gil Spence. Mr. Ruden called Mr. Spence on 9-14-2009 and asked him if he showed the videos to the park commissioners and Mr. Spence said: No. he hadn't. We're not faulting Mr. Spence for this but it would have been nice if they had been able to view the videos so they could have made a more informed decision on the pet pazk proposal and recommendation of 9-21-09. We know the city didn't set out to create a nuisance in our neighborhood when they developed this pazk so close to our homes but that's what it is. Justice Sutherland said: "A nuisance may be merely a ri hg. t thing in the wrong_place -like aria in the parlor instead of the barnyard " That's what this park is, a right thing in a wrong place. We realize we're outnumbered one million to five but it's not about numbers. It's about the city's noise ordinance and personal property rights. This thing has been allowed to fester for more than four years now to the point of personal attacks on us. When Mr Ruden left the May 18~' 2009 council meeting he met Mr. Spence and Mr. Chuck Duggan in the lobby. Mr. Ruden commented to Gil and Mr. Duggan that something would probably come up to change the councils vote to close the pazk. Mr. Spence said: "They'll have to close it now." Mr. Duggan agreed. A few days later an article appeared in the Telegraph Herald that said (Dog Park muzzled. The Dubuque City Council isn't fooling around this time.) We realize they don't speak for the city council but that was their perception. Inane-mail sent to the aspen residents on Mazch 6~' 2009 Miss Braig wrote: "The City will move the Dog Pazk. It just takes time." Well, we're not going to live forever. In whatever time we have left we would like to be able to enjoy our homes and yards again. In closing we hope the City Council will support building a new pet park for the pet owners to enjoy and stick (abide by) with their decision to close this one. Thank You, the Aspen Residents. /D o~ /~~-, ~~
