Proclamation_ Arts and Humanities Month (October 2009) PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the month of October has been recognized as National Arts and Humanities Month by thousands of arts and cultural organizations, communities, and states across the country, as well as by the White House and Congress for more than two decades; WHEREAS, the arts and humanities embody much of the accumulated wisdom, intellect, and imagination of humankind WHEREAS, the arts and humanities affect every aspect of life in Dubuque today, including the economy, jobs, education, creativity and community livability; WHEREAS, the City Council has created an Arts and Cultural Affairs Advisory Commission to develop visibility, funding and partnerships for arts and cultural organizations in Dubuque and has designated a part-time staff position of arts and cultural affairs coordinator; WHEREAS, the City provides financial support to Dubuque arts and cultural organizations through two grant programs and also supports Art on the River, a year-long outdoor, temporary public art exhibit for the enjoyment of Dubuque citizens and visitors; NOW THEREFORE, I, JOYCE E. CONNORS, MAYOR PRO-TEM OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF OCTOBER, 2009, AS “ARTS AND HUMANITIES MONTH” IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, AND CALL UPON OUR CITIZENS TO CELEBRATE AND PROMOTE THE ARTS AND CULTURE IN DUBUQUE.
