Narrative Description: This property is located in the Jackson Park Historic District. Style/Year: post-1889, pre-1891, two- story brick side gable plan remodeled as Neo Classical c.1900. Physical Description: early vernacular or Italianate side gable plan with single-story gable roof rear wing and south side porch was substantially enlarged in the rear wing, and largely re-roofed. Raised stone foundation and water table, side hall plan with entry on right front, symmetrical fenestration, singular four-tier stepped stone lintels are on the ground floor only. Gable ends, including a full-width front dormer, are pedimented. The latter dormer has a classical window set with inset corner columns. There is a chimney on the south side that passes through the gable pediment. It has four part stone shoulders on its two angles. The rear wing has a hp roof and a broad hip roof dormer with a recessed front set within battered side walls. The second rear wing is of the same height and steps back to the north. It has a narrow hip roof dormer. The square-cut porch has tapered round Ionic columns, likely dates to c.1910. Alterations: south second floor window bricked off, porch not present as of 1909. Permits note re- roofing in 1986, third floor alterations 1956 ($1,000), enclosing of front porch of brick convalescent home 1960, outside stairway 1952, single car garage 1953, fire escape 1986. Landscaping/Setting: level parcel fronting west on Jackson Park. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Building History: The Telegraph-Herald, August 6, 1933 1870s walking tour of Main Street locates “the home of Mrs. Otley where now stands the residence of the late James Carr.” 1899 directories locate Mrs. A. Oxley at this address, but place W. W. Carr at 1573 Main to the north? Mrs. Anna Otley owned the parcel when it was sewered, the tap date being September 19, 1910. 1899 – Mrs. A. Otley at this address 9.
