Proclamation_Week Without Violence (October 18-24, 2009)
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, The Dubuque Community Y, utilizing Christian principle, creates
opportunities for growth, leadership and empowerment for women, men,
and youth by building healthy minds, spirits, and bodies with emphasis on
respect, responsibility, caring, honesty, and elimination of racism and
prejudices; and
WHEREAS, The Dubuque Community Y Domestic Violence Program provides a safe
haven and support for victims of domestic violence along with community
education and awareness; and
WHEREAS, Health and wellness, youth development, volunteer and leadership
programs draw our community members together in striving to create
opportunities for growth, leadership, and power to attain a common vision
of peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all people; and
WHEREAS, Community events such as the Dubuque Community Y’s Week Without
Violence, October 18-24, 2009, along with events such as “Voices Against
Violence” Luncheon on October 13, “Lighting the Way” which will be a
Voices Victims event on October 18, The Silent Witness Project
FOR
displayed prominently throughout the city for the entire month of October,
and other activities during that week provide education and awareness of
the tragedy of domestic abuse and all other forms of violence.
NOW THEREFORE, I, JOYCE E. CONNORS, MAYOR PRO-TEM OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 18-24, 2009 AS A:
“WEEK WITHOUT VIOLENCE”
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA,
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set
my hand and caused the Great Seal of the
City of Dubuque to be affixed this 21st day
of September, 2009.
