Narrative Description: Architectural Style And Key Stylistic Elements: Second Empire style, brick quasi row house design with dominant Mansard roof single-story core with very nicely executed 45 degree angled northeast corner, pedimented dormers, subordinate gable roof wing to east forming an L-plan effect, raised basement with nearly full fenestration, rusticated stone lintels on basement windows, walkout, rear porch in southeast corner post-dates 1909. Physical Description: 18x16 core, 21x42 wing to side, cut corner, 2/2 windows in east basement, rear porch, diamond attic light, long stone lintels cover paired windows, lighter colored belt course between floors Alterations: Small entry porch shown on 1909 Sanborn, rear porch post 1909. No permit data found. Building Permits: 1982-reroof mansard roof. Outbuildings: None Landscaping Notes: Prominent corner lot, steep street in front and to southeast, fronts northeast. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Historical Notes: Joseph H. Trieb, contractor, builds $1,500 residence on Seminary, then lives at 84 Seminary (Herald, January 15, 1891). Joseph Trieb owns the property when it is sewered in June 1905. City Directory Notes: (88/78 Seminary) 1883-Joseph H. Trieb, bricklayer, at 92 Seminary. Next door west? 1886-Josep H. Trieb listed at 92 Seminary, works at same. Lives at 92 Ellis 1880. Jos. H. Trieb, contractor, 1894, uses address as place of business. Anthony Trieb, 1899 J. H. Treib, 1899-1921 (88 Seminary) Historical Image Notes: The 1884 Sanborn shows a vacant corner, rendering the 1855 date inoperative. 1891 Sanborn Map shows this house as 1817 Couler, a Mansard roofed rectangular core and centered east wing with north cornice front. The 1909 map shows as 88 Seminary, the 1909/36 map shows as 88/20 Seminary.
