Architectural Style And Key Stylistic Elements:
Second Empire style, single-story brick row house, very unusual for type and low profile, stone
foundation, three side hall (left) plans with separate entrances, Mansard roof treatment only on façade,
raised plain side walls
Physical Description:
28x54 core, brick window arches wrap around to spring stone levels, raised basement, twin brackets on
cornice, three sets of paired gable roof dormers.
Alterations:
No porches, only decks, replaced windows.
Building Permits:
1961-porch repairs
1981-three porches replaced, three sets of steps with roofs, $3,000
1983-gut interior, new basement floor ($40,000).
Outbuildings:
New garage under construction
Landscaping Notes:
Driveway to the west, ground falls away to the north.

Historical Notes:
J. F. Steiner, 281 Seminary, builds three brick buildings, no addresses (listed at 281 Seminary, 1883)
(Herald, December 12, 1884). City directory listings first appear in 1886 (no 1885 directory) and none
of those names are found in the 1884 directory.
J. F. Steiner owns when sewered 1890s.
