Narrative Description: Architectural Style And Key Stylistic Elements: Queen Anne/Classical Revival style(very similar to houses to north and east), broad cantilevered gable front with recessed Palladian balcony, a two-story rounded tower with turret (northeast corner), and a hip roof Classical Revival porch with Ionic columns. The base of a porch-top bay remains, the bay removed. Subordinate gable roof side dormers cap three-sided full-height bays centered on the plan. There is a subordinated two-story rear wing. Physical Description: 43x30 core with front and rear left-hand bays, 8x14 front porch offset right, fish scale shingles on tower, stone foundation and porch piers Alterations: Resided, narrow aluminum siding, new attached garage on northwest corner, removal of porch top square cut bay, rear deck. No permit data found. Outbuildings: None Landscaping Notes: Ground falls abruptly away to the south, driveway to west, fronts north. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Historical Notes: [1906] Fine new residence built by Mr. Ott “two or three years ago,” sold to Mr. Sullivan, “The property is very desirable, being located in a fine neighborhood, with a splendid view of the city, river, and into the neighboring states of Illinois and Wisconsin for long distances.” Purchased for $5,500 “considered cheap, as the erection of the building entailed an outlay of much more money.” Ott transferred from city (Herald, July 15, 1906). Leathers & Trewin own Lots 15-16, 41 and 41a when sewered 1891. Another source says Henry Wunderlich owned Lot 15, Chas. Sassy owned Lot 16. City Directory Notes: (40 Fenelon Place) move to 560 William and Pearl Ott, 1905, he was cashier for the CB&Q RR. As of 1901 are listed at 90 Fenelon Place (see 608).
