Narrative Description: Architectural Style And Key Stylistic Elements: Italian Villa style, two-story brick ell-plan with inset square hip roof tower, elongated lower windows, single brackets with unusual pendants, lintels are of brick with wrap-around form of projecting brickwork, side sections run well down the sides of the upper sash, have projecting cap, upper level windows retain original rounded sash (very unusual survival), wrap-around porch around tower Physical Description: L-plan with wing to front left, 34x48, porch inset to right front, stone foundation, straight stone basement window lintels, north side wall has fenestration only on its west half, there is an east facing door on that part of the plan. Alterations: New porch on southeast corner. Building Permit Cards: 1995-demolish house at 553 3rd. 2000-gut interior, $7,000 Outbuildings: None Landscaping Notes: High bluff setting, house is accessed via alley from Summit to west and is best viewed from there or Fenelon to north, shelf setting, stone retaining wall to east, alley to north, fronts east and south 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Evaluation: House surveyed by Kriviskey in 1979, rated "2" as an excellent example of an uncommon style." Historical Notes: Thomas Faherty owns when sewered. City Directory Notes: (141 Third Street) Thomas Faherty (at Bluff and 4th, 1859); 3rd "on the bluff" 1859-60, is grocer with Faherty & Gray; on 3rd north side, 6 west of Bluff 1867, implements dealer at Main & 1st; same profession 1868-69, same place, resides north side 3rd west of Bluff; at 141 W. 3rd 1875-76, Hale-Faherty & Co., with John W. Faherty, clerk; at same 1883, is agent for Domestic Sewing Machine (32 Main), again sells implements 1890, lives with John W. Faherty at 141 West 3rd, last listing at this address 1896. Cornelious and Ellen Ryan (contractor) (141) 1899-1905, listed as packer 1902,salesman for National Cash Register Co. 1905.
