The Louise Lane Bridge Reconstruction Project was completed by Jim Schroeder
Construction, Inc. of Bellevue, Iowa in the final contract amount of $215,630.30 which is
a 3.0% increase from the original contract in the amount of $209,315.52.
City Engineer Gus Psihoyos is recommending that the City Council accept the
improvements and authorize payment of the contract amount of $215,630.30 to Jim
Schroeder Construction, Inc. of Bellevue, Iowa for the Louise Lane Bridge
Reconstruction Project.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

INTRODUCTION
The enclosed resolution provides for the acceptance of the construction contract for the
Louise Lane Bridge Reconstruction Project.
BACKGROUND
The Louise Lane Bridge Reconstruction Project provided for the replacement of the
previously narrow, single lane bridge, which was geometrically and structurally obsolete
and was posted at 10-ton maximum load.
The new replacement structure is atriple-chamber box concrete culvert and provides
two directional lanes of traffic that serves as the only access to the Louise Lane and
Monroe Avenue area.
DISCUSSION
The Louise Lane Bridge Reconstruction Project was completed by Jim Schroeder
Construction, Inc. of Bellevue, Iowa, in the final contract amount of $215,630.30, which
is a 3.0% increase from the original contract in the amount of $209,315.52.
RECOMMENDATION
I recommend that the City Council accept the improvements and authorize payment of
the contract amount of $215,630.30 to Jim Schroeder Construction, Inc. of Bellevue,
Iowa, for the Louise Lane Bridge Reconstruction Project.

ACCEPTING THE LOUISE LANE BRIDGE RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT AND
AUTHORIZING THE PAYMENT OF THE CONTRACT AMOUNT TO THE
CONTRACTOR
Whereas, the Public Improvement Contract for the Louise . Lane Bridge
Reconstruction Project (the Project) has been completed and the City Engineer has
examined the work and filed a certificate stating that the Project has been completed
according to the terms of the Public Improvement Contract and that the City Engineer
recommends that the Project be accepted; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DUBUQUE, IOWA:
Section 1. The recommendation of the City Engineer is approved and the Project
is hereby accepted.
Section 2. The Finance Director is hereby directed to pay to the Contractor from
the Louise Lane Bridge Reconstruction Capital Improvement Project appropriation for
the contract amount of $215,630.30 less any retained percentage provided for therein
as provided in Iowa Code chapter 573, and to pay such retainage only in accordance
with the provisions of Iowa Code chapter 573.
