Mr. Kamyar Enshayan
Director, Center for Energy and Environmental Education (CEEE)
University of Northern Iowa
Cedar Falls, Iowa 50614-0293
Dear Mr. Enshayan:
The purpose of this letter is to express commitment to partner with the UNI CEEE and if
possible, to host a 2010 Green Iowa AmeriCorps program in Dubuque starting in the fall
of 2010.
The City of Dubuque has a history of successful partnerships and looks forward to
developing a new partnership with the CEEE team focused around sustainability and
energy issues. In 2006, the Mayor and City Council identified becoming a sustainable
city as one of their top priorities. The community's vision of a sustainable community is
focused around the three pillars of environmental integrity, economic prosperity, and
social cultural vibrancy. The community has been recognized by national partners
including the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Carbon Disclosure Project, and
ICLEI-Local Governments for Climate Chance for our visionary leadership in
sustainability. Examples of projects Dubuque's Green Corps participants would assist
with include:
Dubuque2, the community engagement campaign facilitated by the Community
Foundation of Greater Dubuque and Chamber of Commerce to include every
citizen and business owner in Dubuque in the conversation about sustainability
and provide best management practices in energy conservation;
Smarter, Sustainable Dubuque, the City's partnership with IBM, Alliant Energy,
Black Hills Energy, and other local partners to change the way we all use energy;
and
A successful Weatherization Campaign, implemented with our partners at
Operation New View, a community action agency, Four Mounds Foundation, and
others.
We understand that the main focus will be on serving the needs of Dubuque citizens,
especially low-income households, related to energy issues. The program will provide
outreach to foster sustainable behaviors. It will also be involved in hands-on projects
improving energy conservation and efficiency, conducting energy audits, and providing
weatherization assistance. Opportunities to capture and utilize renewable energy, learn
and use green building practices, improve waste minimization and support other energy

related initiatives and events supported by Sustainable Dubuque and its community

The Green Iowa AmeriCorps program can be a significant benefit to growing our
sustainable community. We would be proud to collaborate with you.
